Negombo Hospital

In 2019, soon after the Easter Sunday attacks in Sri Lanka, we began to look for different ways in which we could serve the communities who were impacted by the bomb blasts. Within a few weeks it was apparent that many individuals and organizations in Sri Lanka and overseas had stepped up to help these families, but we felt called to serve in some way and continued to pray for the Lord’s guidance.

During our visits to patients recovering from their injuries at the Negombo Hospital, we came to learn that this main hospital lacked a cardiac care unit and several bomb blast victims had died as a result of not being able to access cardiac specific care at this hospital. We decided to partner with the Negombo Government hospital in their efforts to establish this cardiology unit and diverted most of the donations received for the Easter Sunday attacks to this need.

The hospital designated one floor of a new building in the hospital complex and we worked with the hospital authorities to build the internal infrastructure for the unit including partitioning and ceilings and electrical wiring and many other aspects. The Ministry of Health will provide Cath Lab, necessary beds and equipment. The soft opening of Cardiac Care Unit was held in August 2020 and is now able to serve the people in Negombo and beyond.
